Craig Levein is interested in finding out what is on offer from the Scottish Football Association before making a decision on his future.

The SFA contacted Dundee United on Wednesday to request permission to speak to their manager about the possibility of succeeding George Burley and the club has 'reluctantly' obliged.

Levein has made no secret of his ambition to take charge of the national team but at this stage he is just looking to speak to officials before committing himself.

He told Sky Sports News: "I have a contract that says I can speak to people if there's an interest.

"I must stress it's just an opportunity for me to have a chat with the SFA and find out what's on offer and whether it's something I feel at this stage of my career is what's good for me.

"I'm just doing what I believe is the courteous thing. They've asked for permission to speak to me, so I think it's only right that I go along and have a chat and see what happens.

"If I wasn't interested, I wouldn't be going along to a meeting.

"Whether it's right for me at this particular time, I don't know; I have to find out more about it.

"The one thing I can say is I'm 100% interested in being Scotland manager.

"If the SFA ask for permission to speak to you, the last thing I'm going to say is 'No'."

Thompson

United chairman Stephen Thompson is unhappy that the approach has been leaked but Levein insists there is no problem with their relationship.

"It's a relationship in which we both understand each other," Levein explained.

"He's knows that I'm a highly ambitious man and at some point I might want to leave the club.

"Hence the reason that there is a clause in my contract which allows me to do so.

"But he's fine; it's part of football. He's not been the chairman for long but we speak every single day and we've got a great relationship."
