Redknapp: Baffled by Hughes sacking
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has hit out at the Manchester City owners for sacking Mark Hughes.
Hughes was relieved of his duties at Eastlands shortly after City's 4-3 win over Sunderland on Saturday and has been replaced by Italian tactician Roberto Mancini.
City have only lost two Premier League games all season, one which was against Redknapp's Spurs side, and he admits he was baffled by the decision.
"I couldn't believe it really," he said. "(I'm) disappointed. They've lost two games this season - away to Man United in the last minute and then they got beat at Tottenham in the week," he told Sportsweek.
"Two defeats is certainly not a disaster. They've got a game in hand and they were sitting just off the (Champions League) places.
"I'm really surprised that they've taken that decision at this stage of the season.
"Mark's a good manager and, given time, there's not doubt they would have been very successful."
Redknapp also hit out at the foreign owners who have emerged in the Premier League in recent seasons.
The Spurs boss labelled modern manager comings and goings as a 'merry-go-round' and said the new owners lack patience.
"It's different now," he added. "You've got multi-millionaire owners who all want to be number one, and the more that come into the game, they're not going to understand that they can't all win.
"In their life they've made so much money and they do what they want with their lives because they're so rich, and they'll expect to win.
"The more that come in, the more you are going to see managers come and go.
"The merry-go-round will be even worse because they're all disappointed they're not top of the league. They won't understand it."

Malcolm Bowen says...
A game of sport is meant to be about winning and loseing ,you win some and you lose some.I am not a fan of Manchester teams or of Mark Hughes, but this decision by Man City is one comes that straight out of the City of London. It is not about sport and gamemanship it's all about profit and crushing your rivals no matter what. A contract when signed should be kept by all sides players managers and clubs except for the usual circumstances such as miss conduct etc. I hope that the money men behind City come to a sticky end this season buy missing out on a top 4 spot
