Lyon and Marseille saw their title hopes take a major dent as they both suffered home defeats on Wednesday.

Marseille started the day in second, but ended the day in fourth as they came up short against Auxerre at the Stade Velodrome, with Kenyan Denis Oliech bagging both goals in a 2-0 win.

l'OM's loss meant Lille moved into second spot after a convincing 4-0 win at Nancy.

Eden Hazard put Lille ahead just before the break and they ran away with things at Marel Picot, with Gervinho grabbing a brace and Pierre Alain-Frau converting a penalty.

Lyon missed the chance to move into third, which instead allowed Montpellier the opportunity as they claimed an excellent 2-1 win at Stade Gerland.

Victor Montano opened the scoring just after the break, but Lyon looked to have salvaged a point when Bafetimbi Gomis levelled with just eight minutes left.

However, Montpellier struck back almost immediately to claim the win as Joris Marveaux pounced.

Leaders Bordeaux took full advantage of the slip-ups behind them as they extended their lead to nine points after a 2-1 win at Toulouse.

Paulo Machado had given Toulouse the lead early on, but Bordeaux hit back almost immediately through Marouane Chamakh. Brazilian Wendel grabbed the winner with just 16 minutes left.

Paris St-Germain moved into seventh as they heaped more misery on basement club Grenoble as they claimed a 4-0 win at the Parc des Princes.

PSG were in control early on as Peguy Luyindula opened the scoring after just eight minutes. Further strikes from Sylvain Armand, Mevlut Erding and Christophe Jallet sealed the win.

FC Lorient climbed into eighth and above Valenciennes after a 3-2 win over the northern outfit.

Valenciennes were twice ahead through Johan Audel and Gael Danic, but Morgan Amalfitano levelled on each occasion.

Then Lorient sealed victory when Franco Sosa won it just after the hour mark.

Sochaux moved nine points clear of the drop zone following a 2-0 win over Rennes.

A goal in each half from Stephane Dalmat and Edouard Butin was enough for Les Lionceaux.

Le Mans moved out of the bottom three after a 1-1 draw with Monaco.

Former Liverpool man Anthony Le Tallec gave the home side the lead but the principality outfit grabbed a point thanks to Park Chu-young's goal.

The relegation battle at Nice saw the home side come from behind twice to claim a 2-2 draw with Boulogne.

Damien Perrinelle put Boulogne ahead on the hour, but Michael Pote levelled just minutes later.

Jeremy Blayac then put the visitors ahead again, but Nice secured a share of the spoils as Pote scored again.
