Sky Sports sources understand Bolton have made Owen Coyle their prime candidate to succeed Gary Megson as manager.

The Burnley boss has established himself as one of the country's most promising tacticians having guided the Clarets to the Premier League on a limited budget.

Last season's promotion winning campaign also included a run to the Carling Cup semi-finals, where their exciting brand of football won universal praise.

Coyle has refused to change his free flowing attacking principles upon promotion and while Burnley have received their fair share of heavy defeats, they have punched well above their weight and have lost just once at home.

Bolton felt they needed a change of direction after the club's supporters lost faith in Megson, who was never a popular figure in the stands of the Reebok.

A move for Coyle, a former favourite at Bolton in his playing days, would likely placate those long-since exasperated by the direct style of football employed by Megson.

Upon being made aware of the speculation Coyle, a target of Celtic prior to their appointment of Tony Mowbray, insisted he was concentrating on the job in hand at Turf Moor.

"I had a lot of fantastic times at Bolton and loved every minute," he added.

"But I love being at this football club and I have shown that.

"It is a fantastic job for someone out there but my focus is on doing the best against MK Dons this weekend.

"I have had speculation time and time again but, as always, I am concentrating on the job in hand."

Chris Cunliffe (Bolton Wanderers fan) says...

All these Burnley fans talking rubbish saying Bolton are Championship bound i think you need to look at yourself abit. Bolton arnt the biggest or the best in the premiership, but at least we dont play our football in a shed and can at least afford to spend abit of money. We have been in the prem a lot longer than Burnley could dream to be. We get all the so called football idiots saying we will go down season after season but we are still here so button it. Come on Owen come back home.. you cant do anything at Burnley with a few hundred thousand here and there to spend :)

Owen Coyle should head to BWFC and leave that garden shed they call turf moor asap, he cannot take such a small club any further,

Its still all pure speculation, why is it rival football supporters can't be civil to one another, I understand why Burnley fans are unhappy, we lost Rioch ,Allardyce, Armfield etc to BIGGER clubs, Whats up Man U fans unhappy because Bolton are getting more publicity than Fegie at the moment.

Fred Foxey says...

Mark Robbins, the Barnsley Manager, a young but tough man who has battled with relegation and got a lot out of mediocre players. His achievments at Rotherham wereoutstanding. He also served his time in the United environment from which a number of talented managers have appeared, most capable at the highest level.

Burnley fans come off it!!! Bolton are a Championship club, pot kettle black comes to mind! Yeah I agree bolton would be incredibly lucky to get big owen coyle as he has taken Burnley to the Prem and would like to stay loyale, even though he doesn't have unfinished business at burnley, as lets be honest Burnley wouldn't be in the Prem without Owen Coyle he has distinctly average players and put confidence in them and are performing for their gaffer, which is what botlon have lacked with megson in charge. We need a manager that demands respect with a bit of character. Love hughes or coyle or speed with another former player as assistant!! CAMPO! but that would be dreamland and not sure Speed is ready yet. Big Sam I would Love You back please come home! But knowing bolton we will get a boring character like Curbs. dont want Reid, Dowie or Jewell

Phil Hughes (Bolton Wanderers fan) says...

As a Bolton fan, i would love to see Owen Coyle at the club, that is one way of relegating one of our rivals and keeping us up!! Alot of you opposing fans are looking at the table and pressuming we are going to get relegated because burnley are above us at the moment, however, Hull were above us for most of last season and stil ended up finishing way below us. Burnley are on a slippery slope, we have players with far more potential and have a more established force in the premiership. Ten years to Burnleys 4 months says it all. We have better stadium, better facilities, better squad (with the right tactics!) and more money for the manager to spend if needed in january. Come on Coyle...you know its true, come back "home"

Jonathan Hugh (Liverpool fan) says...

Bolton are going to get relegated. Coyle is a good manager and should stay at Burnley. He is the driving force of the club.

Mark Ward (Manchester United fan) says...

Why would he go to Bolton who are more likely to get relegated.? He is only starting something great at Burnley and if they had a better away record than they do they would be sitting comfortably in the top ten. For him to jump ship to Bolton at this stage would make no sense at all considering they had the chance to hire him but chose Megson instead!!

Sam Woods (Bolton Wanderers fan) says...

In my opinion, Owen Coyle is the perfect appointment for Bolton Wanderers. He's hugely popular with the Bolton fans, would be a very welcome appointment and the place would be buzzing if he came in. The crowds would definitely come back. His exciting style of football is what Bolton fans have been craving for over a decade. Phil Gartside, get Owen Coyle. If you're worried about compo money, flog Johan Elmander off to some dodgy Danish team and with the money give it to Burnley!

Laura Hirons (Burnley fan) says...

Owen Coyle won't go, why would he leave Burnley for a in a worse league position and a worse financial position? I just think this is bookies trying to make some dosh and Phil Gartside creating some hype. Owen Coyle is king!

Dave Goll (Bolton Wanderers fan) says...

I don't think Coyle is too interested, he is a loyal manager and worshipped at Burnley. But there is a new rumour going around Bolton the last few hours saying that Klinsman has beenn shortlisted. Apparently Klinsman is really hoping to get a job in the Premier League. He would become a favourite by the fans.

Jim Sparks (Burnley fan) says...

Bolton are championship fodder and most if not all good managers know this and thats why they will all laugh at you. Good luck in the CCC next year bolton. hahahaha

Andrew Wray (Burnley fan) says...

Owen is going nowhere. He has more respect for our club than that (and more sense). The Clarets are staying up!!

Jamie Ingram (Burnley fan) says...

I would be truely gutted if owen coyle left us.. he has been a great manager and dont think we could have got to wembley without him last season. Bolton are probably offering more money but our team by far have the better connection and thats something i think he would miss.

Dean Mcafee (Bolton Wanderers fan) says...

haha Bolton are doomed, do you know how often we have heard that over the years, backs to the wall, Coyle in charge with the fans behind him, Reebok would be a fortress again.

Daniel Lord (Burnley fan) says...

We are nothing without Owen Coyle & we need him more than ever at the moment. Its one thing getting us into the Prem but his mission is still incomplete as we have to stay there. If at the end of the season we have to part with him then so be it, but he is the man to keep us in the top flight for another year. Kevin Davies must be shakin in his boots at the thought of Owen Coyle going to Bolton.... What is he gonna do with the ball on the floor?? Boring Managers are in charge at boring clubs, so Bolton get Peter Reid hes more your style!!

Posted 16:47 1st January 2010

Sam Herd (Leeds United fan) says...

If Owen Coyle has any respect for Burnley football club then he will dismiss the reports out of hand! If he wishes to pursue his career at Bolton Wanderers he should wait until the end of the season! no leave Burnley managerless tilting on the edge of the relegation zone.

Gary Parsons (Bolton Wanderers fan) says...

If we manage to bring Coyle in, this would unite our fans at last and Phil Gartside would gain alot of respect from the Bolton fans. Go get him Phil!

Peter Manning (Burnley fan) says...

Hi, i am a burnley fan who is absolutely fuming about bolton. this is virtually tapping up by phil gartside. "leaking" information about bolton wanting coyle, getting the media to create a buzz, then they "approach" coyle officially. burnley loves you owen coyle, please dont leave!

Posted 15:05 1st January 2010

Phil Carson (Bolton Wanderers fan) says...

Owen Owen Coyle, he gets the ball and scores a goal, Owen, Owen Coyle!
