Jimmy Calderwood has confirmed he has been offered the chance to succeed Jim Jefferies as Kilmarnock manager.

The SPL side are on the lookout for a new man at the helm after Jefferies left by mutual consent on Monday after eight years in charge.

The former Aberdeen boss has been out of work since the summer and has been handed the opportunity to assume control of first-team affairs.

Calderwood held talks with Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston and has confirmed there is a contract on the table if should he wish to accept.

Talks

"I have had a meeting with Kilmarnock and they have offered me the manager's position," Calderwood told the Evening Express.

Johnston believes that Calderwood, who spent five years managing at Pittodrie, has all the qualities that the Rugby Park club are seeking.

"Jimmy has a lot of qualities that are attractive to us," he explained. "He is experienced, he knows the SPL well, and his track-record, I think, is pretty good.

"I think we need someone like Jimmy. In fact, I've said that what we need is another Jim Jefferies, a guy who will come in and really get the players going."
