Tomas Rosicky is pleased to have signed a new deal at Arsenal and insists he always hoped he would stay.

The Czech Republic international penned new terms with the Gunners in December, with the club announcing that an agreement had been reached at the turn of the year.

Rosicky has struggled with niggling injury problems over recent years, severely restricting his playing time, but has been rewarded for a number of promising displays since returning to full fitness this term.

He insists he was only too happy to prolong his association with Arsene Wenger's side and insists reports suggesting he has penned a pay-as-you-play deal are wide of the mark.

"All the things that were speculated on in the press were total nonsense," Rosicky told deniksport.cz.

"Like, for example, the fact that Arsenal were hiding something because they refused to reveal the length of the contract. If you look, you will see that they don't publish that information for any player.

"That is their right. There are no secrets. Somewhere else I read that I had signed a contract with an option for an extension, but there is no option."

Speculation

Rosicky also revealed that he was keen to have a new deal in place by 1st January, to prevent gossip-mongers from linking his name to any number of clubs across Europe.

"I always knew that if I hadn't signed by 1st January I would be a free agent and could basically talk to any club," he added.

"That is why I wanted the deal done by the New Year.

"Arsenal have always been my priority and that is why I did not want to start any speculation."
