Fabio Capello believes England are facing a 'tough' qualifying campaign for the 2012 European Championship and refused to talk about John Terry.

England were drawn in Group G alongside fellow home nation Wales and Switzerland, Bulgaria and Montenegro at Sunday's ceremony in Warsaw.

The draw was far from ideal in Capello's eyes and he anticipates a difficult campaign against the likes of World Cup participants Switzerland.

He told Sky Sports News: "I think that the worst group was A and G, and we will play in G. It is a tough group."

Capello added: "I prefer the smaller group because we play less games, but it is tough. The group is very tough."

High standard

But the Italian expects his side to perform to a high standard, saying: "I have confidence in my team. I am sure we will play a fantastic qualification for the European Championship."

Capello was making his first public appearance since stripping John Terry of the England captaincy following newspaper revelations about the centre-back's private life.

The Three Lions boss demoted Terry after holding talks with the Chelsea star and promoted Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand from his role as vice-captain.

Capello, though, declined to directly comment on the subject and only said that, having met with Terry, he will hold discussions with Ferdidnand.

England's manager said: "No questions about the captain. I spoke with Terry and I will speak with Rio."

Phil Rigby (Manchester United fan) says...

Its not what I would call an easy group by any means but I wouldn't say its all that tough either. We should be beating Wales and Montenegro home and away without too much trouble. Bulgaria are hardly world beaters either and we should be very confident in beating them. Switzerland may pose the biggest threat in the group but I would definately pick to play them ahead of Croatia and Russia. All in all I think it should be a fairly comfortable group which we should finish top by a considerable margin.
