Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is not prepared to make an exception to his 'over-30s rule' by handing William Gallas anything more than a one-year contract extension.

Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood has revealed that the 32-year-old centre-back will only be offered a new 12-month deal ahead of the summer when his current terms expire.

Gallas' future is therefore far from certain as it was expected that the first-team regular would want assurances and AC Milan are reportedly monitoring the situation.

But ahead of Wednesday's meeting with Liverpool at Emirates Stadium, Hill-Wood claims that Wenger is not ready to break his policy of only offering one-year contracts to players over the age of 30.

On the table

Hill-Wood said: "Arsene has a policy with players who are aged 30 to offer them one-year extensions.

"He has not asked us to make an exception for Gallas. If he did, I am sure the board would agree to it.

"It is not out of the question, but it is certainly not on the table at the moment.

"I think it is proper for players of that age to get one-year deals. Then if they do well, they get another year.

"It worked perfectly well for the likes of Dennis Bergkamp."
