Hull City's bid to beat the drop has received a boost after George Boateng won his claim for wrongful dismissal.

The midfielder was shown a straight red card for violent conduct just before half-time in the Tigers' 1-0 defeat at Blackburn on Wednesday.

Referee Lee Probert brandished the red card following a clash of heads with Morten Gamst Pedersen.

But his claim for wrongful dismissal was upheld at an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing on Friday.

Suspension withdrawn

As a result, his three-match suspension has been withdrawn and Boateng will be available for Phil Brown's battlers against West Ham, Everton and Arsenal.

Boateng told Sky Sports News that he was fine after the clash of heads, saying: "The head is fine, I've recovered and obviously with head injuries you have to take care of it, but it was nothing serious."

The midfielder said he was delighted to have his appeal upheld, adding they had looked at the video from the referee's angle after the game.

"You could see that my arm was raised," he said.

Good case

"But it didn't make any contact with the player so we felt we had a good case and to be suspended for three games for something not too serious as that or not contentious would have been very harsh."

Brown will also be delighted after he criticised the dismissal after the match, saying: "To say it is a nonsense is an understatement.

"It is clearly a clash of heads and a brave challenge by both players."
