Walter Smith insists takeover talks for Rangers will not affect his squad's ability to finish the season in style.

Rangers have been up for sale since last year and on Monday the club confirmed talks for Sir David Murray's majority shareholding had started.

Gers are currently well-placed to secure yet another league title as they command a 10-point lead over arch-rivals Celtic.

Although Rangers disappointed in the UEFA Champions League they are in the Scottish League Cup final and quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.

Smith admits the off-field uncertainly has been unnerving, however, he insists the team have never lost sight of their goals.

He is pleased with their impressive progress on the pitch and believes they will see out the job in style despite the confirmation of takeover talks.

Uncertainty

"It's not been easy for anybody. Everybody gets affected by the uncertainty that's happened," he told Sky Sports News.

"It would obviously be nice if that gets settled, but I think we've got a long way to go before we see that yet.

"So it's not affected the team greatly on the pitch.

"We didn't acquit ourselves in the European arena, but domestically we've been going along okay.

"Reaching the winning stage of the season we're in a decent position.

"Hopefully we can see the season out successfully, but we know we'll have to work hard for that.

"Anything that goes on in the background has not affected us so far and won't affect us in the run in."
