Gerrard: Involved in flashpoint
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard could find himself in trouble with the Football Association after he appeared to flash a V-sign at referee Andre Marriner during his side's 1-0 defeat at Wigan.
Gerrard was booked in the 81st minute of the clash at the DW Stadium following a robust challenge from behind on James McCarthy, and replays of the incident suggested he had gestured towards Marriner as well as mouthing an obscenity at the official.
Marriner did not notice the gesture but the FA might decide that Gerrard, who captained England in their 3-1 friendly victory over Egypt last week, has a case to answer.
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, speaking after the Wigan game, insisted he had not seen the incident.
"I don't know, I was too far away," said the Spaniard.

If the Respect programme is still running, surely that's a crime worthy of a 3 match ban. and more to the point the headline should be "Gerrard should face FA probe"?

If the FA call Gerrard up on this, I hope they call up most of the players in proffesional football who do the exact same thing every weekend. It is an absolute joke that the FA can call up a player for swearing having seen it on TV, yet when the whole world sees it every weekend from the likes of Rooney, Fabregas, Lampard etc, which is actually aimed at and seen and heard by the referee they choose to ignore it. Hidden agenda me thinks?!?

Oh well here we are again - why is it that all these high profile premier league managers never ever see what happens when one of their players is involved in some misdemeanor. When will one of them have the guts to stand there and say yes I saw that - we will deal withit later. Never.

If a player got in trouble with the FA just for "mouthing an obscenity at the official", players like Gerrard would constantly be getting fined and/or suspended. So would Rooney, Lamps, Terry, infact most of the England lads. Such a good example to youngsters...
