Sheffield United have been handed a boost with the news that Ched Evans's shoulder injury is not as serious as first feared.

It was initially feared Evans may have sustained a broken collarbone after colliding with Peterborough goalkeeper Joe Lewis during his side's 1-0 defeat in midweek.

Blades manager Kevin Blackwell has confirmed Evans, who was forced out of the midweek defeat at Peterborough, will not now be sidelined for three months, but could be back in action in six weeks.

"The Peterborough doctor feared that Ched had suffered a break, but in fact the collision disturbed the joint, so rather than three months he could be back in a month and a half," said Blackwell.

"That would be two weeks of doing nothing, two of build-up work and then another two weeks of training before being available to us, if things went well."

Fellow striker Jamie Ward and midfielder Lee Williamson will be out for three weeks and 10 days respectively after sustaining hamstring strains in the same match.
