Andronikou: Getting to the bottom of matters

I don't believe this will be the last (club to go into administration). I feel there are a lot of problems all over the league.

Portsmouth administrator Andrew Andronikou anticipates that other Premier League clubs could follow Pompey in entering administration.

Andronikou is currently attempting to stabilise Pompey after they became the first side in Premier League history to enter administration.

A nine-point penalty now looms which would ensure the South Coast outfit's hopes of avoiding relegation to the Championship are all-but dashed.

Andronikou has pointed to the club's 'imbalance' regarding their income and expenditure as the primary reason for their plight.

And he believes that further top-flight sides could face the same troubles in the future.

Andronikou told the Spirit Sport podcast: "Yes, I am surprised at the extent of the liability and the extent of the problems.

"I don't believe this will be the last (club to go into administration). I feel there are a lot of problems all over the league.

"At this club particularly there has been a complete imbalance in terms of revenue and overhead costs."

Sensationalising

Andronikou also anticipates that there could be some 'surprise' revelations regarding the club's transfer dealings.

There have been claims that some of the transfer fees reported in the media over Pompey's recent agreements may have been exaggerated.

He said: "I am not really any closer to getting to the bottom of that.

"I have looked at one or two transactions. The media is great at sensationalising transfers.

"The larger the fee paid, or the alleged fee, the better the story.

"We will see what comes out in the next few weeks, you might be surprised on some of the transfers that were reported by the press.

"I think the best way forward for clubs is the undisclosed route."
