Peter Storrie has stepped down as chief executive of Portsmouth but will stay on in a consultancy role.

Storrie has been a prominent public figure for Pompey this season, as he attempted to steady their sinking ship.

He was expected to remain in his executive post until the financially-crippled club had found a new buyer.

However, he has decided to step down from the role and will now undertake consultancy duties for the club's FA Cup semi-final against Fulham or Tottenham.

Support

Pompey administrator Andrew Andronikou has confirmed that Storrie has handed in his resignation, but has thanked him for the hard work he has put in at Fratton Park during a difficult time.

"After talks with his family and friends, Peter Storrie decided it is in the best interests of the club for him to leave his full-time employment," read a statement released on the club's official website.

"The administrators would like to thank Mr Storrie for his undivided assistance and support over the past few weeks.

"Mr Storrie has pledged to continue to assist the club and the administrators on a range of matters, including the sale of the club, the FA Cup semi-final arrangements and other projects and will be remunerated accordingly."

History will show that one man took on more than he could cope with. He was forever spinning storries to the supporters and it was always my belief that he thought he was Mr Pompey. He single handed almost brought about the demise of a 112 year-old football club. I cannot see how this man will be ever employed in football again, even if he escapes jail. Mr Storrieteller, if you had an ounce of thought for the club and supporters you should have resigned months ago. No doubt you will have a very comfortable retirement unlike those that lost their jobs no thanks to you. I hope that you choose not to show your presence at Wembley as it would be very insensitive to all connected to Pompey. May HMRC deal with you accordingly!

May I begin by saying a big thank you to Peter Storrie for helping the club reach the dizzy heights of the Premier League and an FA Cup Final. Whilst, I do not agree with the level of abuse that he has suffered, I had hoped that as a final act in which he could have shown his love for the future of the club by stepping down the day after the club went into administration. Certainly, as one of the high earners still at the club, he might have allowed the Administrator greater flexibility in perhaps not having to cut the number of jobs that he has over the passed few days. Lets hope we can get a buyer in before the end of the season and those who have been released and who needed the income that they had previously received, will once again have employment. Especially, as the current financial situation hat the club finds itself in was not of their making!

I think people would have had more respect for Peter Storrie if he had been more honest at the start of Pompey's trobles. When Harry Redknapp left the club, he (Harry) said he was leaving because the club needed the money, Peter Storrie rubbished this claim. We then found out that the then owner (Gydemark) had not put any money into the club for 18 months and that Storrie was having to sell players to keep the club going. He stayed in the role, keeping quiet for so long while taking a monster wage packet. He should have been more honest from the start, this is why people blame him for Pompey's demise.

Peter I can't believe that you have stayed at portsmouth this long, I didn't see any body else stepping up to the plate and talking to the media when the ship was sinking, I am not sure if people really realize how much effort goes into keeping creditors happy when they are owed so much money. Who else way trying to bring in new investors??? People have to remember you were an employee to! All the best Peter I am sure you are looking forward to a well earned breal!

As a Leeds Utd fan, I must say that I have seen it all before under a present Welsh Chairman. You could not afford to spend ridiculous ammounts of money on transfers and wages like the club has. Peter Storrie, you did not assume the responsibilities required of you in your senior position. The club will see that the sooner you relinquish all connections, the sooner they will pick up the pieces.

Tony Forrest (Newcastle United fan) says...

Surely Mr Storrie has been nothing but bad for the club? Sanctioning wages for players that were unaffordable despite the club earning mega money from player sales in the last few years? Throw in the tax fiasco and the fact that the new stadium is still nothing more than an artists impression, I do not think he should be allowed to hold a position in a football club in future

Good bye and good riddance, As CEO has played a serious part in nearly killing my club. Should have been first on the list of job cuts yesterday, how many staff could have stayed on as a result of his so called "pay cut". At least this has been one promise he has kept.

Mark Lattimer-hedley (Portsmouth fan) says...

although we dont know all the details it looks bad when after all the bad decisions this man has done he only walks away after he's took a pay cut. i feel sorry for the fans but this should never have happened.

Aaron Nixon (Manchester United fan) says...

haha how typical left now he has had to take a 40% pay cut what about the 85 sacked employees after he helped nearly ruin the club and ultimately cost them jobs. Sort of man you would hate to see at your football club just after peter risdale greedy so n sos

Steve Conroy (Portsmouth fan) says...

I think that all you have to ask yourself is what is the single common denominator throughout the last two years of turmoil at the football club - Peter Storie !! He introduced so many new buyers and said all the right things we wanted to hear ... and yet almoust without exception non of them had any money !! How on earth he was paid 1.3 million is beyond belief ..... !!

Posted 19:49 12th March 2010

Vin Lewis (Arsenal fan) says...

Should he not have done this 3 days ago to help not make the 85 people redundant? The man is a selfish joke, who appears only to have contributed to what Pompey has become. The only saving grace for him is that Pompey are the first, but will not be the last........

Brian Bloomfield says...

Storrie should have left a long time ago. He was involved in all the dealing which has put Pompey in this mess. As a fan I'm glad to see the back of him.
