Roberto Martinez is confident Wigan have already moved on from their thrashing against Bolton, but has reiterated his growing frustration at their Premier League inconsistency.

The Latics failed to build on their historic victory over Liverpool as they were demolished 4-0 at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday to leave them only four points clear of the relegation zone with just 10 games remaining.

Wigan's display against fellow strugglers Bolton was in startling contrast to their success against Rafa Benitez's Reds as defensive errors littered their performance this weekend and Gary Caldwell was a particularly guilty party.

Martinez is continuing to scratch is head regarding his side's seesawing form, however, the Spaniard believes his squad have already put their latest setback in the past as they prepare for Tuesday's DW Stadium match against Aston Villa.

The Wigan boss said: "It has happened the whole campaign and it is important we learn from it.

Disappointment

"But whenever we have a disappointment we get together and we get stronger as a whole, that is the reaction we need tomorrow.

"In some areas we didn't cope with the disappointment of certain decisions or the goals we conceded.

"But I am pleased with the way everybody is getting ready for the game tomorrow. That is the way we have to be at this stage of the season.

"It was an outstanding performance against Liverpool, that is what we are capable of and we have to make sure we get that on a regular basis. To do that you need to get ready for the next game."

Martinez added: "We need to make sure we learn from the painful lesson and become a stronger squad, a stronger football club and be ready for the next challenge.

"This squad has got a huge sense of responsibility and great character. We are all getting frustrated when we cannot get that consistency in our performances but I get the sense they cannot wait to get out on the field again."
