Thomas Rogne believes beating Rangers in the Scottish Cup final would be the perfect tonic for Celtic should they miss out on SPL glory.

The Bhoys are a massive 13 points adrift of their city rivals in the title race and realistically only have one piece of silverware to fight for.

The Old Firm duo have been kept apart in Monday's semi-final draw and Rogne would have no qualms with Walter Smith's side reaching the final.

The teams have not met in a Scottish Cup final since 2002 when Peter Lovenkrands' last-gasp winner settled a thrilling 3-2 win in Gers' favour.

Rogne concedes Tony Mowbray's side face an uphill battle for the title, but cup glory over Gers would be a nice way to end the campaign.

"Beating Rangers in the final would be a good scenario, it would be nice," said the 19-year-old.

Always good

"If we don't win the league, it's always good to win the cup.

"We would probably have to beat them to win it at some point so it doesn't matter if it is in the semi-final or final. But it can be a dream final.

"We have a good shot now. It is important for the club and the players to get some trophies.

"Now we are in the semi-final and we have every chance in the world to win it.

"But it doesn't matter if it is or isn't Rangers we play against in the final, as long as we win."

Rogne is currently on the sidelines with a hamstring injury and he hopes to be fit and available for Mowbray in two weeks' time.

"The injury is getting better," he concluded. "Maybe I will be fully fit in one or two weeks. Hopefully I will be back for the semi-final."
