Stefan Maierhofer has joined Bristol City on loan following Chris Iwelumo's return to Wolves.

Iwelumo has impressed during his time at Ashton Gate and Robins manager Gary Johnson had hoped to keep him for longer.

However, Johnson's disappointment at losing Iwelumo will be tempered by the arrival of his Wolves team-mate Maierhofer.

The 27-year-old Austrian striker has linked up with Bristol City on a 28-day emergency deal and will be available for Tuesday's clash at Plymouth.

Since arriving at Molineux from Rapid Vienna last summer, Maierhofer has made just two starts and seven substitute appearances.

He scored on his Premier League debut when coming off the bench at

Blackburn but his most recent senior action was against Manchester United at Old Trafford in December.

Maierhofer slipped down the pecking order with Wolves boss Mick McCarthy using Kevin Doyle as his only striker and also having back-up from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Sam Vokes and Andy Keogh.

McCarthy hopes Maierhofer will benefit from spending time at Bristol City up until 11th April.

"This is a good move for Stefan and offers him the chance to enjoy some regular football," said McCarthy.
