Hull City chairman Adam Pearson hopes to appoint a new manager by Wednesday morning but is not considering Alan Curbishley.

Phil Brown was relieved of his duties at the KC Stadium on Monday following a poor run of results that has left the Tigers three points adrift of safety.

Curbishley was immediately installed as one of the favourites to land the job but Pearson has ruled out the former Charlton and West Ham boss.

Pearson is looking to fill the role by the middle of the week and has drawn up a shortlist of 'about five' managers.

Speaking on Radio Humberside, Pearson said of Curbishley: "He's not on the (shortlist)."

"We're probably looking at a deal to the end of the season.

Operational

"We will then ascertain where we are and what we've got financially before committing further than that.

"Alan is a fantastic manager but it needs to be someone we can get in on a nine-game basis. He is not on that list."

Gary Megson has also been linked with the vacant position but Pearson would not be drawn on the ex-Bolton chief.

He continued: "We want the new manager operational by Thursday, we will do it promptly and would expect to be able to make a decision tomorrow night.

"We expect there will be an announcement at the latest by Wednesday morning."
