Dowie: Nine games to keep Tigers in the Premier League
Iain Dowie has been named as the new Hull City manager and has just nine games to keep the club in the Premier League.
The 45-year-old has agreed terms on a short-term contract and will be officially unveiled as Phil Brown's successor at a press conference. He will then take training on Thursday as he attempts to plot the Tigers' survival bid.
Dowie's Hull reign will start with a must-win trip to bottom side Portsmouth on Saturday.
In an interview with Sky Sports News' Bryn Law, the former Charlton boss admits he is relishing the challenge after agreeing a deal with the Tigers late on Tuesday.
He is looking to bring in his own backroom staff including former Blackburn goalkeeper Tim Flowers along with Steve Wigley. The shake-up means current assistant manager Brian Horton will be leaving the KC Stadium.
The club acted quickly to appoint a new manager after deciding to dispense with the services of Brown on Monday.
Four successive defeats have left City 19th in the table and three points adrift of safety.
Chairman Adam Pearson believes taking such decisive action now gives the club their best chance of survival.
Pearson said yesterday: "We feel that we've got a quarter of the season to go with some winnable games within that.
"It's not a fixture list that's packed full of 'top four' games, it's a fixture list with games where we would expect to get some points.
"We feel that we're best served by making the change now. That will bring a fresh face in, some new impetus and some new focus to get those 14 or 15 points that we're going to need."
The former Charlton boss has spent much of this season working as a Sky Sports pundit and was even covering Preston's home game with Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.

Brown had Hull punching above their weight for years.... I always like to see the small teams do well in the Prem but now would love to see Hull go down, and quite frankly, with Dowie at the helm, this looks like a dead certainty. In fact, given his talent (lack of) Hull fans will be playing the likes of Southend and Hartlepool in a couple of seasons in League One.

Oh god help you Hull fans!! he will arrive with a big red nose and big shoes...when he parks his car in the car park, the doors will fall off..always been a loser as a manager - always will be! you will now go down for sure,,have you heard this man on sky sports? and he is going to inspire your team with 9 games to go??..please discuss with your board?????

Relegated with Palace (admittedly after doing a fantastic job to get them up), relegated with Charlton, relegated with Newcastle, mediocre at Coventry, sacked by QPR..... I mean I like the man, his honesty is great and I'm sure he's got a great knowledge of the game but seriously?? Alan Curbishley, David O'Leary, Mark Hughes, George Burley.... All out of the game and Pearson plumped for Dowie. Unbelievable.

Your all missing the plot here!!!! Get rid of "Singing Brown"...bring in "Down we go Dowie"...End of the season, get rid of "We went down Dowie"...Then hire a new coach and staff to take them back up!!! Simple...The big question is, WHO will they hire before next season???....Who said directors of football clubs don't know what they are doing!!!

Dowies track record is not that bad - I think people write silly comments just for something to do (or say) and should take a look at what he's done in his short management career. Give the guy a chance cos let's be honest here people - the only really successful manager in the Prem is a certain Mr Ferguson (it hurts me to say that) and I doubt very very much that he will be putting his name forward any time soon.

Im a Palace fan and he did a phenomenal job for us, even though i dont like the guy for the way he left us. Having said that he has 3 years at Palace, hes only got 9 games at Hull, he cant change the team around, their best player is constantly injured and i dont feel he has the attitude needed to keep a struggling team up. I like Hull as a club, however alot of people feel that they have been punching well above their weight for a long time now

I was surprised by the Brown sacking and must admit to being surprised at this appointment. To be honest I think Hull are already destined for the drop anyway. As a Wolves fan I cant say I mind because with Portsmouth down, Burnley next and Hull following that means PL football at the Molineux next season.

Stuart R (spurs fan) says...
With Portsmouth already down and Burnley dead certs, Hull had a great opportunity to stay up with Brown at the helm. Now, after this massive mistake they are dead certs with Burnley. West Ham, Wigan & Co can sleep easy, Dowie couldn't keep a ball up let alone rescue Hull.

Could prove an inspired decision! Dowie is just the man. Surely he's got to do something right one of these years!!

As much as i like Iain Dowie i cant see what improvement he can make to Hull City. After the Arsenal game the Captain, not the manager should have been sacked after that wreckless NEEDLESS challenge that resulted in a red card.I personally think the big cheeses at Hull have made a mistake in thinking a change of boss will make a difference,it wont, especially at this time of the a season.Pompey(obviously) Hull and Burnley will go i think

This appointment is almost as bad as the Burnley/Laws aquisistion (which ive just commented on incidently)!! Thank you Sky Sports for your brilliant coverage, i havent laughed this much in ages! What are Hulls Board thinking of? Was this decision made at a late night drinking session because its totally bizzare. Sacking Brown and appointing Dowie, i have to applaud the boards decision to surrender their PL status, its cretainly a brave one at that. I always thought it be an honour for a Manager to do what he does best in the Worlds top League, yet these positions are dished out as if its a Sunday League Club. No offence Hull fans but your Chairman dont giv a toss about your club!

Oliver Higson says...
The negativity that has surrounded this appointment has quite simply staggered me, with Dowie, they know they're getting one of the best, most innovative coaches in the game that can be guaranteed to get the best out of the players. Despite receiving a lot of bad press, his track record as a manager is almost faultless, minus the blip at Charlton which can be put down to a lack of time. He was the best manager QPR have ever had in terms of win percentage so it begs belief why Briatore got rid of him, he did a phenomenal job at Palace. And even at Coventry, his win percentage was over 40%. I think the fans just need to give him a chance, all Dowie and Hull City need is a bit of luck, and I have complete faith that us Tigers will emerge from these games retaining our Premiership status. I'm quite looking forward to seeing thousands of people eat their words concerning Dowie's appointment. Come on you Tigers.

Gary Megson (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...
Ok, so Ian Dowie doesn't have the greatest track record. But for a former pro with a lot of experience with struggling clubs, he will have surely learnt a thing or two. We are talking Hull City here. Jose is not likely to put his hand up. At least Dowie doesn't think he's more important than the club. Give the guy a break and pass judgement in May.

Nick B (Everton fan) says...
I am sure that given Ian Dowies excellent man management skills, unquestionable knowledge of the game, relentless ability to get the worst out of players, and past track record, he will ensure Hulls stay in the Championship next season is just one season. The next season Hull will be in league 1. Probably one of the worst decisions made this season. On the way to his appointment he was listening to his favourite Status Quo track...........down down deeper and down...and that is where he will be taking Hull City.

Both as bad as each other but I wuld ave either stuck wth Phil Brown or wuld ave appointed another option.

Hope he will be a good coach, althouth I have my doubts. Phil Brown was far more good than this one Dowie. Better to have kept Phil. Surely Hull City have recieved the sentence for relegation. Lets put our fingers crossed and hope that this will never happen. all the best Tigers.
