Louis van Gaal has confirmed he is open to returning to international management when his Bayern Munich contract ends.

The 58-year-old's only stint as a national coach was between 2000-2002 when he failed to guide Holland to the 2002 World Cup finals.

Van Gaal is currently contracted to Bayern until the end of the 2010/11 season, although he is still planning for the future.

The former Ajax and Barcelona boss, who won numerous trophies with the Dutch giants, insists he would only coach a big nation.

Van Gaal would be open to coaching England, Spain or Argentina and does not believe managing Germany would be a problem providing he could bring success.

Won everything

"I have won everything with my clubs. But I want to be part of a World Cup or a European Championship," said the experienced manager.

"There I could achieve something only with the top nations and Germany is one of them. But it could also be England, Argentina or Spain.

"I do not think (coaching Germany) is a problem. It is about the quality of the coach and that is the most important thing and if Germany win the World Cup with Van Gaal then everyone in Germany would be happy."
