AZ Alkmaar boss Dick Advocaat believes that his success with former club Zenit St Petersburg means that he will be on Russia's shortlist of successors to Guus Hiddink.

The ex-Rangers boss is the manager of Belgium, but was given permission in December to accept an interim role with AZ until the end of the season as the defending Dutch champions had struggled prior to Ronald Koeman's sacking.

After a difficult start, Advocaat has steadied the ship with AZ and they have not lost in the league since the end of January to enhance the reputation of a manager who guided Zenit to the 2008 Uefa Cup.

With Russia searching for a new boss in the wake of Hiddink's decision to switch to Turkey at the end of his contract, Advocaat thinks that his previous achievements will mark his as a possible candidate.

"I understand that my name (could be) on the list," the former Holland and South Korea manager said in De Telegraaf.

"That makes sense because with Zenit St Petersburg I had a great job."
