Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson claims the Football Association disciplinary system is 'dysfunctional'.

The Red Devils chief has endured a frosty relationship with the authorities down the years, with the experienced coach feeling his side are often on the wrong end of decisions.

Less than two months ago he was involved in another spat with the FA after Rio Ferdinand was handed a four-match ban following a clash with Hull City's Craig Fagan.

The England ace was put on trial by video and saw his suspension increased upon making, what the FA deemed to be, a 'frivolous' appeal.

Ferguson has since seen Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard escape punishment following a similar incident, with the midfield ace now free to lead his side out at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Crazy

The United boss admits he did not expect any action to be taken, with the system lacking in 'consistency'.

He said: "I didn't expect anything to happen to Steven Gerrard. It (the disciplinary panel) is a dysfunctional unit. I don't know what they are doing.

"There is no consistency for a start and I didn't expect to get any.

"I am not too bothered about it. They can do what they want down there. It is crazy at times."
