Harry Redknapp is confident Aaron Lennon will be back in action for Tottenham before the end of the season.

The winger has been sidelined since December with a groin injury, with the untimely knock striking him down in full flow.

Some star showings for England and Spurs suggested the youngster was back to his free-flowing best, before he was cut down in his prime.

Lennon is, however, closing in on full fitness and is expected to step up his rehabilitation next week.

Redknapp said: "Aaron's raring to go and we're hoping that some time next week he'll get on the grass, he is desperate to play and we are desperate to have him.

"We take it day by day and hopefully he will play before the end of the season."

Lennon could yet play a major role in Tottenham's quest to secure a top-four finish, with Redknapp's men still very much in the hunt.

Dreamer

"To get Tottenham into that Champions League position would be a terrific achievement for everyone at the club," said the experienced coach.

"It's going to be a difficult task and would be lovely, but I am not a dreamer and don't sit at home dreaming that we could play Inter Milan or Barcelona."

Meanwhile, Redknapp has responded to claims by disgruntled midfielder Adel Taarabt that he should never have joined Tottenham.

The Moroccan is currently on loan at Queens Park Rangers and has made it clear that he has no desire to head back to White Hart Lane.

"He said that Barcelona and Real Madrid are coming in for him. That is where he sees himself going next year," joked Redknapp.

"Barcelona have not been on the phone today and nor have Real Madrid. When they ring us, we are going to ask a lot of money for him.

"He said that he should have gone to Arsenal which is not a clever thing to say when you are playing for Tottenham. He will come back next season unless Barcelona or Real pick up the phone."
