Mick McCarthy believes that Wolves' goalless draw with Everton was a "terrific" result for the Molineux outfit.

The visitors created the more clear-cut opportunities during the stalemate but were left frustrated as the home defence withstood the onslaught.

The Wanderers manager hailed the quality of his opponents, saying they were as good as any side Wolves have hosted this season.

"A terrific point - it was hard earned," McCarthy told Sky Sports after the match.

"I think we were playing against one of the best teams that's been down here. They're as good as anybody we've seen down here."

Four points from their last two games have led many to tip Wolves, who now sit five points above the relegation zone, to beat the drop.

Although McCarthy is happy with the recent form, he is under no illusions about the size of the task still facing his side.

Earning safety

He added: "We're enjoying that (run of form) but we're not going to (start) dancing on the dugout with our drawers in the air saying that we're staying up.

"Let's earn it.

"When we weren't doing well, people wanted to give us aggro. And we're trying to just stave that off.

"So when we're doing well, everyone wants to pat us on the back and almost get us carried away - it's not going to happen.

"We'll just keep scrapping away - that's all we've done all season."

The former Sunderland boss also praised the defending of his side, who withstood pressure from an Everton team he believes have top-four potential.

"I'd like to think so, yes," McCarthy said when asked if the goalless scoreline was down to Wolves' stout rearguard.

"And down to our goalkeeper, who's made a couple of great saves.

"We're playing against a top-four team there - we're expected to be in the bottom three and get relegated.

"So, give us a little bit of slack. We've done well, they will have chances.

"We've made good tackles, good blocks, good saves. I don't know if they've missed too many easy ones but (it was) an all-round workmanlike performance from us."
