Everton boss David Moyes does not believe FA Cup finalists Portsmouth should be allowed to play in next season's Europa League.

Pompey have qualified for Europe via the cup, although they do not have a Uefa club licence having been unable to apply in time as they were going into administration.

Club administrator Andrew Andronikou is planning on presenting a strong case to win a licence before the May 31st deadline, a move that could damage Everton's hopes of European football.

The Merseysiders are currently eighth in the Premier League standings and seventh could secure Europa League football next season should Portsmouth be denied entry.

Praise

Moyes is full of praise for the job done by Pompey manager Avram Grant in guiding the south coasters to the FA Cup final, but believes the rules should be enforced.

"If you don't apply and don't do the right things, then you can't expect to be in there," explained Moyes.

"I have sympathy with the situation the club are in, and what Avram has done getting them to the Cup final is nothing short of miraculous under the circumstances.

"But you'd have to ask why Portsmouth didn't apply. They have to abide by the rules like everybody else."
