USA striker Charlie Davies' World Cup dream is over, his club Sochaux have confirmed.

Davies was left with a broken leg, multiple facial fractures and a lacerated bladder following a car crash in October which saw the passenger killed.

His World Cup dreams looked to be over at that stage, but remarkably Davies - who has 17 caps to his name - returned to training last month.

But despite renewed hope he may recover, Sochaux's medical staff have confirmed that he will not be fit to return to action until next season.
