Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal has told Anatoliy Tymoschuk that he will not stand in the Ukrainian's way if he wants to leave the club.

The versatile midfielder arrived from Zenit St Petersburg last summer, but his signing had been previously agreed by former boss Jurgen Klinsmann and he therefore struggled for opportunities under a new manager.

Van Gaal has not favoured Tymoschuk and built his team around Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mark van Bommel as they won the 2009/10 Bundesliga, German Cup and finished runners-up in the UEFA Champions League.

The Bayern boss has therefore advised the 31-year-old that he may do best to look for a fresh employer ahead of the new season.

"Tymoschuk's prospects are not very bright," Van Gaal told Kicker magazine.

"Schweinsteiger is in the form of his life, Van Bommel is the captain. It looks tough.

"If a player doesn't play or doesn't have bright prospects then I would leave if I were them.

"I will not say to anybody who wants to leave that he is not allowed to, apart from my captain and three or four other players."
