West Ham co-owner David Gold says David Beckham could play a key role in the club's bid to move into the Olympic Stadium.

The Hammers are hoping to move into the ground following the conclusion of the London 2012 Games, although they will have to win the right to do so.

Gold believes England and Los Angeles Galaxy star Beckham, who was born in East London, could influence the final decision towards West Ham.

And the club's co-owner would also love to see the 35-year-old midfielder end his playing days with the Hammers.

"David Beckham could play a massive part, because of his roots, in helping West Ham win the Olympic Stadium," Gold told the Sunday Express.

"And maybe he can still play for us in the autumn of his career.

"For him to join a club like us and help us bring another dream to fruition would be perfect for everyone. We want him aboard."
