Lazio are poised to sign Javier Garrido from Manchester City, according to club president Claudio Lotito.

The Serie A side have been on the lookout for a left-sided defensive reinforcement following the sale of Aleksandar Kolarov to the Eastlands outfit.

Garrido has steadily slipped down the pecking order at City following his £1.5million arrival from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2007.

The Spaniard briefly forced his way back into Roberto Mancini's starting XI at the start of the year, but he now appears to be surplus to requirements.

Lotito, speaking before a Serie A League meeting in Milan, confirmed negotiations were ongoing and were moving towards a conclusion.

He told reporters: "We are a step closer to the definitive agreement for Garrido."
