Neil Lennon has refused to give up on Celtic's UEFA Champions League hopes after a comprehensive defeat to Braga in their third round qualifying first leg in Portugal.

The Scottish club were humiliated in their manager's first competitive match as permanent manager to leave them facing a close to impossible task to turn the tie around in next Wednesday's second leg in Glasgow.

A controversial first-half penalty from Alan, a debut goal from Uwa Elderson Echiejile and a stunning free-kick from substitute Matheus did the damage, but Lennon is not ready to throw in the towel.

"Some people may think the tie is over; we don't," he declared.

"We've got a good record at home, we've been in this position before and we'll just have to go and be at our very best next week."

Chronic

Lennon also insists that a decision has not been made on the future of Aiden McGeady, who did not play in Portugal just 24 hours after his boss insisted he would play.

The winger's omission adds weight to rumours that he is set to be sold, however, Lennon has said that the omission was due to a back injury.

He explained: "He was complaining of a chronic back injury last night.

"Having spoken to the medical team, with the lack of training and the lack of game time he's had, I thought it best not to risk him.

"Hopefully, we'll have him for the second leg."
