Tottenham starlet John Bostock believes the heavy influx of foreign signings is stifling and hindering youngster's opportunities.

The 18-year-old was being linked with the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona before moving to White Hart Lane in 2008.

However, he has barely featured under Harry Redknapp after winning just 25 minutes of playing time in two seasons.

Bostock is eager to play for Spurs, but feels the number of foreigners standing in his way is blocking his progress.

New Premier League rules mean clubs have to register eight homegrown players in a 25-man squad, but Bostock remains unconvinced.

Foreigners

"You look at the foreign contingent over here and it's blocking us," he said.

"It's frustrating. It's hard when you have not been given that chance.

"I'm not sure about that. Clubs are spending millions on foreigners and still want to play them.

"It's hard because we might have to wait until we are 21 or 22.

"I just want to play. The dream is to play for Tottenham, but I want to play."

This is what I don't get with youngsters at Premier League Clubs. How can an 18-year-old expect to be played week in week out at the highest level that is the Premier League? Do you really think Bostock could push out the likes of Modric and Palacios in the Spurs squad and do better? He is a very good prospect but should've stayed at CPFC for quite a while longer. Harry will no doubt have an eye on him but i really can't see him making an impact, at his current age, in a team looking to maintain a Champions League position.

Ando Ando (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

Harry Redknapp was quoted over the summer as saying that there were some young English players in his squad who weren't developing or getting their chances because they were lazy and had bad attitudes. One wonders whether Bostock is one of these. If so, he should quit moaning, stop believing his own hype, and put more shifts in at the training ground.

Dean Fitzgerald (Crystal Palace fan) says...

This young man is an example of everything that is wrong about the game at the moment. No loyalty was shown by him when he went back on his promises to Palace and took the money from Tottenham and now he complains that its effecting his progress. He was being played in our first team from 15 years of age and had the opportunity to become a regular with the regular action that he supposedly craves. His head and his ego is enormous, but that goes well with his bank balance. Was a major cause in the financial crisis of Palace due to his treatment of Simon Jordan and I for one wish he disappeared from football as another wasted talent. Horrible arrogant young man.

@ Stuart Mcmillan, TOTALLY AGREE!!! that is the reason why. it's the same excuse they use when foriegn workers work in physically demanding jobs for the minimum wage, the english dont want to do it. its not because of the influx of foriegners, it is because of a distinct lack of talent within the english youth setup. personally id rather my team be succesfull,no matter what it takes.i do however think that there should be atleast 4 ENGLISH players in every STARTING line up !!!

Luke Murphy (Crystal Palace fan) says...

Unfortunately he had his head turned at 16, in his defense Spurs were buying up a lot of young/ish English talent but at Palace he would probably had the same if not more second tier games under his belt as that of nat clyne. Here in Spain most if the younger players in his age group play for their respective clubs b teams, guardiola was boss of barca b two years ago! The second tier in Spain is not as aggressive but technically better, after the world cup and euro u19 we are as a nation going to have to copy the Spanish coaching style. As for bostock he should never have left.

Agree wholeheartedly with the comments above. Would have been a regular in a Palace side getting regular football, and Spurs fans please do not take too much into the "my dream to play for Spurs" nonsense, he made a similar comments when at the Palace "If im playing regular football at Crystal Palace, why would I want to go anywhere else, Its my dream to play for Crystal Palace" A bit like Robbie Keane with his "I'm a big Liverpool/Celtic...Whoever next Fan"

"It was my dream to play for Palace and to make my debut. I've always played for the club so if I'm playing here, I wouldn''t want to be anywhere else." - John Bostock (Nov 2007) "I just want to play. The dream is to play for Tottenham, but I want to play." - John Bostock (July 2010)

John is a very funny man! Crystal Palace brought him through the ranks as a boy and were ready to give him a run in the team in order for him to get the experience he now craves, but he left for the bright lights of the Premiership. Look at the number of games N Clyne has had for Crystal Palace, If he stays this year he will probably be 1st choice, and would walk into most premiership teams within 2 years if not before, older and experienced. Bostock playing career has gone backwards, if he had stayed at Palace he would be playing week in week out, and be a 100% better for it. He took the money when he should have thought about his playing career. Who advised him, and what were their motives? Sorry John, you will get little sympathy from this part of South London, the foreign contigent are play in the Premiership because of the money that is offered to them, you were exactly the same, but obviously they are just better players!

A A (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

John Bostock is only saying what most of us think ans want to really say out loud....why are a lot of jobs going to foreigners...including footballers who only here for the money not the clubs. England had dissmal world cup partly down to players who regularly play for their clubs...but can anybody imagine what will happen at next world cup and ones to come when we will have players that only play for their clubs sometimes or from the lower divisons...food for thought - it makes me sick

Jonathan Curtis (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

Bostock is only 18 years old.... yes there are foreign players ahead of him -but these are better players than him at the moment. Let's also not forget that there is also, Jenas, Huddlestone, O'Hara & Parrett all ahead of them..... Simple fact is Bostock isn't ready yet.... he should be patient - even Becks didn't break into the first team til 20 ish....!!!

Martin Jarvis (Crystal Palace fan) says...

Oh Well should have stayed at Palace for a few more seasons and got first team football rather then go to Spurs for the money! unlucky son!!!

Magyar Angol (Crystal Palace fan) says...

Well now here's a thought. Maybe if you had stayed and done your apprenticeship with CPFC rather than sell out for the money you''d be in a better position. Isn't this what your manager HR said on the beeb during the World Cup?? No sympathy from me or the other thousands of Palace fans.

Tonto Jones (Liverpool fan) says...

Bostock was starting to play at Palace @ 15. But then decided he was too good for them. If he''d buckled down and got some years of experience there then maybe he''d find it easier to get a game now. He also went on loan at Brentford but they did not re-new it as they felt he had an attitude problem. Things don't just fall in your lap Johnny just because your British, doesn't mean you don''t have to work for your success. Stop moaning at foreigners and have a good look at yourself.

Tobias Dahlerup (Liverpool fan) says...

Then don't move to one of the big clubs when you know they won't play you until that age... Stay in the clubs where you get playing time and move when the time is right... Don'' come crying because you took the money over playing time!

Stuart Mcmillan (Kilmarnock fan) says...

Ridiculous comment, fact is he obviously isn't good enough, I'm so sick of the British press fueling the idea that English players aren't getting the chances, the fact is a lot of them aren't as good as foreign imports. Why dont you say what you mean john, "I'm not good enough for a starting place at Tottenham"
