Danish club Odense have accused West Brom of trying to sign Eric Djemba-Djemba for a cheaper fee.

The Cameroon midfielder arrived in the country on Tuesday to watch the Baggies play Doncaster in a friendly and to hold talks with manager Roberto Di Matteo over a move to the Hawthorns.

Despite undergoing discussions however, Albion found a problem with the former Manchester United midfielder's knee when undergoing a medical and cancelled the deal.

Odense have now hit back in a statement however, refuting the claim that the Baggies cancelled the deal on medical grounds and saying that they were instead trying to negotiate a lower price.

Poor explanation

"West Brom have confirmed to us that there was a problem with the medical and wanted a lower price," said director Kim Brink.

"I don't understand this. I want to confirm that Eric has no injuries whatsoever. Yes, he was injured during the spring but he's ready now.

"There are no problems so I think it is a poor explanation by West Brom to get a better price.

"People can come and say whatever they want to get a better price but if they really wanted Eric, they would pay what we agreed.

"I have experienced a lot in football and most things don't surprise me but this has surprised me because we were really close (to a deal)."
