Defender Paulo Da Silva is hoping to stay at Sunderland this season with a view to establishing himself as a regular in Steve Bruce's line-up.

The Paraguay international, who joined the Black Cats last year, has reportedly attracted interest from a number of clubs on the back of his World Cup performances.

But 30-year-old Da Silva insists he is happy to stay at the Stadium of Light and is keen to earn a spot in manager Bruce's first-team.

"After some days of having some rest I am going back to England with a big expectation of starting the season," said Da Silva.

"I am going to join the team in the training sessions and trying to get myself a place in the team."

Anxious

Da Silva is anxious not to rely too much on his display in South Africa, where he helped Paraguay to the quarter-finals, as he looks to win a place in the line-up.

"You can't live thinking about the past," he added.

"I know that there have been positive comments about me in the club but it depends on the coach if he is going to have me in consideration or not."

The stopper insists Sunderland are not looking to let him go this summer, but he has not completely ruled out a move.

He said: "I also know that there have been some proposals, that some offers arrived at the club for me but I think that the club doesn't have in mind letting me go as the league is about to begin.

"But if an offer arrives and it's something useful for the club and for me, then maybe we'll have some talks."
