Charlton Athletic have confirmed the signing of striker Pawel Abbott from League One rivals Oldham Athletic.

Skysports.com revealed earlier on Friday that the Addicks were closing in on Abbott and have now paid Oldham a nominal fee.

The 28-year-old, who was Oldham's top scorer last season with 13 goals, has signed a two-year contract at The Valley.

He becomes Charlton's second capture of the day after the arrival of Simon Francis from Southend and manager Phil Parkinson is happy with his dealings in the transfer market.

Goal threat

Parkinson told the club's official website: "It's been a good day and it's great news to have Pawel on board.

"We know we are short in the striker department. Pawel is another player I've known for a while and I watched him for many years when he was at Huddersfield Town.

"He's a big target man who is always a goal threat, and he's got a good goalscoring record."

Both Abbott and Francis are expected to be involved when the Addicks take on Watford on Saturday in their final pre-season friendly.
