Paul Smith has been informed that he is surplus to requirements at Nottingham Forest and placed on the transfer list.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has fallen behind Lee Camp in the City Ground pecking order and was restricted to just one Championship start last season.

He has made more than 140 appearances for the club since joining from Southampton in 2006, and helped Forest secure promotion back into the second tier in 2008.

However, with Camp having stolen the limelight following his arrival from Queens Park Rangers, Smith has found himself consigned to the bench for long periods.

Forest boss Billy Davies feels he needs regular first-team football at this stage of his career and has advised him to find a new club.

The Reds are now willing to listen to offers for Smith, who was once invited to train with the England squad during his days with Southampton.

"I have told Paul that his future lies away from Nottingham Forest," Davies said in the Nottingham Evening Post.

"It is in his best interests and in the best interests of the club if he moves on to pastures new.

"He needs somewhere where he can get regular first-team football, which we can't offer him here.

"He has been placed on the transfer list and is available for sale."
