Ozil: Hot property
When you are looking at moving clubs it's impossible not to pay attention to the Premier League and even more impossible not to pay attention to Manchester United and Chelsea.
Mesut Ozil
Quotes of the week
German sensation Mesut Ozil has revealed that he would relish the opportunity to join Manchester United or Chelsea.
The 21-year-old playmaker saw his profile rocket this summer after a number of impressive showings at the World Cup finals.
His creativity helped Germany secure a third-place finish and ignited interest in his services across Europe.
His current employers, Werder Bremen, accept that they now face a battle to keep their prized asset at the club.
As Ozil has just one year remaining on his current contract, they have accepted that they may need to cash-in now rather than lose him for nothing in 12 months time.
It is believed that a bid of around £12million could force their hand, and that sort of money is readily available to the best in the business.
Top clubs in the Premier League would have no problem finding such a sum and Ozil admits he would welcome a switch to England.
"There are four or five clubs in Europe that you would have to say as a player would be a dream to play for," the youngster said in the Daily Star Sunday.
"Manchester United and Chelsea are very much two of them.
"When you are looking at moving clubs it's impossible not to pay attention to the Premier League and even more impossible not to pay attention to Manchester United and Chelsea."
He added: "I am a winner and, when I am looking for a new club, I simply look at where I can be the most successful and where I can win the most trophies.
"If you look at the recent history of Manchester United and Chelsea then it's clear that a player can be very successful there.
"Of course clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are of huge interest and the Premier League's top two clubs are of serious interest to me when the time comes."
While hinting that he could be tempted to take on a new challenge in the near future, Ozil accepts that his future lies in the hands of Bremen.
He said: "I am under contract with Werder for another year and it is impossible for me to say if a deal will be done this summer.
"They may decide that they want to keep me for another season or they may decide to sell me this summer so they can get some money for me. That is up to the club."

Chelsea should sign Ozil. The asking price is very low compared to what Liverpool asked for F.Torres and he would be more useful in Carlo''s formation. Sign him now Chelsea

I would be very happy for Chelsea to either sign Ozil or Ramires. After all we''ve lost Cole, Ballack, Belletti and probably Deco pretty soon. Come on Mr Abramovich, sign the cheque and lets us get some quality replacement for our mid-field dept. CHELSEA ALL THE WAY.

Ozil - great midfielder in the making, no question. UTD need this guy, the perfect replacement for Scholes, the best English midfielder of his generation. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, I don''t think UTD will go for him because I think that the deal would be done by now if it was going to happen. I think he''ll end up at Madrid, the spoilt brats who have built their reputation on the money of the Spanish monarchy and government for decades. Madrid are re-building again, I''m afraid. Lastly, can we just put one thing straight? All these people (City, Liverpool, Chelsea fans) who argue that UTD have bought success in the past are simply WRONG. The statistics were published on Skysports News the other day. UTD have had money, I admit that, and they''ve used it in the past, but they used to have some strict wage policies, transfer budgets, and so on. All teams have to spend at some point in order to appease the fans who bring the money in, but UTD have never spent money in the way that Madrid and Chelsea have done and the way that City are doing now. In fact, if you look at it, UTD''s average net spend is around £20m per season since 1992. Not a lot of money by football standards. UTD''s success has always been built on developing young players, end of.

I sat next to a German fan watching England''s demise in the World Cup. The German described Ozil as the German "Messi", even before the match had started and I didn''t believe him. Now I see why. As others have commented he would be the perfect replacement for Scholes and add even more firepower to what I think Chicarito will bring. I fear that Chelsea will secure the signature. (Come on Fergie!!!)

I think ozil should go to us because we could make a world class player so if masharano goes for at least 20m we could offer him 15m+aqaulani

Robert Adams (Manchester United fan) says...
there is no chance united will sign ozil. Firstly Fergie very rarely signs high profile players, secondly players like anderson and hopefully hargreaves should all be back soon. Also the new premierleague squad rules would mean Fergie would have to sell someone in order to buy ozil.

I think that Liverpool should try to get him, maybe offer a swap deal for aqualiani if it is needed. Surely Liverpool have £12 mill after the sell of benayoun and Riera.

Today''s Times says he''s been signed by Madrid, though. How is signing for them "eyeing English clubs" He has 1 yr of Bremen contract(pft) to honour (is there such a thing in football?) he should see it out then move - all the posturing is to get a better contract. Make contracts legally binding, Blatter.
