Lewis Moody 'would love' to be England's full-time captain if manager Martin Johnson gives him the chance.

Johnson has yet to announce who will lead the national team in the long-term, despite naming Moody as skipper for the back end of the Six Nations and this summer's Test series against Australia.

The 32-year-old flanker, who has just made the switch from champions Leicester to Bath, told the Daily Star Sunday: "I loved being captain of my country, there's no greater honour. But that's history.

"Johnno never gives much away but we won the second Test in Sydney to square the series, only the third time England have won down there in half a century of trying.

"Now, we all start afresh. After 14 great years with Leicester, it's a whole new challenge as I begin my career with Bath.

"I have to earn their respect, then earn a place in Johnno's team. If Johnno still wants me to be captain - and feels I'm up to the job - I would love to do it again."

whoever is chosen it has to be for the 2011 world cup. lewis moody is ideal for captain although i think mark cueto is just as deserving as tindall and wilko. More importantly england are in the final run-in to the world cup and we have to have a solid team with regular players playing in those position throughout the year

Mick Jackson says...

He definately is the man for the job.He has all the experience , knowledge, respect from his team mates and wears his heart on his sleeve I cannot see borthers returning to the squad and now Johnno must make him captain to give some consistancy and help the younger team members advance to a potential World championship team.
