Donovan: Costly
David Moyes admits Everton are unlikely to be able to bring Landon Donovan back to the club any time soon.
The United States international enjoyed a productive loan spell at Goodison Park last season and revealed this week that he would welcome the chance to return to Merseyside.
However, his MLS employers, Los Angeles Galaxy, would only be interested in striking a permanent deal and could ask for as much as £11million for the highly-rated forward.
That would put Donovan out of Everton's price range, as the Toffees board have tightened the purse strings.
Moyes admits he remains keen on the USA ace, who starred at this summer's World Cup, but has begrudgingly accepted that he is set to miss out on the 28-year-old.
"Don't you think I've asked my chairman (Bill Kenwright) to make it happen?" said the Scot.
"We'd love to have Landon but he looks too expensive for us and we just don't have it.
"We don't have the finances. The price the MLS want for him is very big and it's an additional problem because of his age.
"All we've done is spend £1m on Magaye Gueye so far. Jermaine Beckford and Jan Mucha were free, so we've spent no money by Premier League standards and will probably be the ones who spend the least this season."

As per usual, we have no money to spend in the transfer windoww. This club is one that has a strict wage structure, a 35,000 + average home gate, phenomal worldwide support, has secured European football for 5 out of the last 7 seasons, had a FA Cup Final appearance and a Carling Cup semifinal appearance and yet has no money AGAIN! What are you doing with it???????

It''s a shame that Everton can''t afford to buy Donovan.I thought Landon had found a club that he could have found a home.An up and coming team.A great manager. And great fan support. It looked really good for Donovan.I heard Man City might come in for him.I just hope if that do buy that he''s just not there to be on the bench and that Mancini will give him a fair chance to prove himself.

Why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spend some money and get Landon on Board. Tie him up for 5 year and after 3, you can still off load him at a profit. Football is also about winning Silver ware and we need the likes of Landon to make that happen. Pleaseeeeeeeee reconsider. Or City will snap him up.

Andy Holt (Everton fan) says...
Unless mr kenright ( who i have complete faith in) finds the funds to match davids and the fans ambition we will lose the best manager and team we have built since 1985. We as fans fully understand the frustration the board is feeling with the uncertanty over the new ground but surely we as a club cannot let the opportunity to let david push his team on with the couple of quality signings we need, anything less will see us take backwards steps... nil satis nisi optimum

Honestly Moyes how to we expect to do better than last years performance if teams like spurs and man city are spending over the amounts, i know if we spent a fraction we could produce a better squad so tell billy to start splashing some cash!

IF HE WANTED HIM HE COULD WORK IT OUT IM SURE,,, SELL THE YAK AND BUY DONAVON I THINK THAT IS MORE BENEFICIAL TO EVERTON THAN KEEPING YAKUBU

Donovan on a season long loan with a view to a permanent. Maybe our only option! Ben Arfa would do a job for us aswell.

David Morgan (Everton fan) says...
Well why not sell Yakubu, Osman, or Hibbert? raise some funds fast!!! these players are perhaps not upto the standard we wish to be, where as Donavon is. We''ve signed 3 forwards to cover the YAK, we have Rodwell to replace Osman, and 3 players who can play right back besides Hibbert. come on Moyes stop asking a chairman with no funds for money and raise it yourself.
