Serie A giants Lazio do not consider their failure to land Roque Santa Cruz to be a major problem.

The Italian outfit were in the market for the Manchester City striker right up until deadline day, however, they were unable to put a deal in place for the Paraguayan forward.

Santa Cruz had appeared destined to be on his way out of Eastlands this summer, with Fulham also expressing an interest in his services, but he remains on City's roster.

The 29-year-old must now sit tight until at least January, when Lazio president Claudio Lotito has hinted that he may rekindle his interest in the South American.

Evaluate

"It's not a disappointment," he said on missing out on Santa Cruz.

"We decided to take some time and wait for the winter transfer market in order to evaluate whether to make that signing, considering that in that role we already have Mauro Zarate, Sergio Floccari, Tommaso Rocchi and Pasquale Foggia."

Lotito has also sought to end any uncertainty surrounding the future of Argentine frontman Zarate.

He was linked with a number of clubs across Europe during the summer transfer window, but Lazio insist the former Birmingham loanee is going nowhere.

"I don't consider offers for Zarate because the Argentinian is not for sale and is a key player for this club," said Lotito.
