Everton defender Tony Hibbert insists his team must overcome their poor start to the season to beat Manchester United on Saturday.

The Toffees face a daunting task at Goodison Park against the title challengers after taking just one point from their opening three league outings.

But Hibbert insists his side have been performing well, despite suffering defeats to Blackburn and Aston Villa with their solitary point coming against Wolves.

And the 29-year-old reckons the visit of Sir Alex Ferguson's team provides the perfect opportunity to record their first win of the campaign - as well as claim a major scalp.

"It's a massive game for us, we're at home and we need a win no matter what," Hibbert told his club's official website.

Luck

"We've had a few good results at home against Man United so I think the lads are looking forward to it.

"I think we're playing brilliantly, we really are. We're getting a grip of the game and passing the ball really well.

"We're just lacking a little bit in the final third but maybe that's a bit of luck and maybe that will come on Saturday."

David Moyes' side were left particularly frustrated in their defeat at Villa, where the Merseysiders dominated the affair but couldn't find a leveller.

A Luke Young strike settled the clash in the end and Hibbert has called on his colleagues to be clinical in the final third against the Red Devils.

Everton beat United 3-1 in the same fixture last season and Hibbert added: "You can push and push all day long but at the end of the day you need to score.

"Scoring goals wins the games so we need to start scoring. Maybe it is a bit of luck we need to kick start us but you've got to keep on going."
