Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has admitted he would like to see his players given more game time for their clubs.

Some of his top players, including Robbie Keane, Shay Given, Liam Lawrence and Darron Gibson, are not regulars at club level, meaning they are perhaps suffering from a lack of match fitness.

Gibson has already responded to reported claims that the Italian wanted him to leave Manchester United in order to further his international career, something the manager has denied saying.

Keane has also suffered due to a lack of first-team football at Tottenham where he has featured little and lacked sharpness in the Republic's 1-0 win over Armenia last Friday.

The striker did make amends with a goal against Andorra in their 3-1 win at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday in their Euro 2012 qualifier, but Trapattoni conceded he wanted his players to be playing more.

"They can play more time, the same for Robbie Keane, our midfield (playing games) is also very important," he said on Sky Sports News.

"The young players I already said can play 90 minutes if you are training and playing football.

"Sometimes they don't play but if they had one hour I could play them.

"Sure it should be better when our players play for their club because they can improve their condition."

Despite some players appearing tired in their exertions in the sweltering conditions of Armenia, Trapattoni felt that the temperature in Dublin on Tuesday helped his players to cope with playing a full game better.

"It was a good opportunity, I said two days ago the weather would help us because the temperature was 35 degrees, here it was 18 to 15, so it gave the possibility for them to recall their energy," he added.
