Gareth Barry believes Manchester City's presence in the England squad can help the club to achieve success in the future.

Barry was one of six City players who were on the pitch at the end of England's impressive 3-1 win over Switzerland on Tuesday night, along with Joe Hart, Aaron Lescott, James Milner, Adam Johnson and Shaun Wright-Phillips.

And with such a healthy core of Fabio Capello's side coming from Eastlands, Barry insists it can only bode well for City in their quest for domestic and European glory.

"It was brilliant for the club to have so many players on the pitch - and it shows the quality we have got at City," he said.

"It is great to have a core of English players.

"You have seen the top teams over the years, the Chelseas, the Manchester Uniteds, have had that spine of English players and been successful.

"We've got to work hard and hopefully we can achieve something like that."
