Steven Naismith insists it has been a 'positive start' to Scotland's Euro 2012 qualification campaign despite the performance against Liechtenstein.

Scotland were heading for an embarrassing draw at home to Liechtenstein on Tuesday until Stephen McManus secured a 2-1 win in the seventh minute of stoppage-time.

The team had been booed off at half-time at Hampden Park with the game scoreless, but Naismith feels the nature of the victory is a sign of the spirit within the Scotland camp.

The Rangers forward, who appeared as a substitute against Liechtenstein after starting the 0-0 draw in Lithuania, believes Craig Levein's side can be satisfied to be top of Group I after two games.

Solid base

Naismith said: "In general we have got a good team spirit, but nights like that just bring you that bit closer.

"We have been unlucky in previous campaigns with not getting late goals we needed.

"But this time we got one we needed. It just makes it a very good start to the campaign.

"It's early days, but the first thing the manager wanted was a solid base and not to concede cheap goals and be hard to break down.

"We have shown that, especially in the first game against Lithuania.

"We pushed on (against Liechtenstein) and got goals so it has been a positive start and the manager definitely has all the boys behind him."
