Blackpool manager Ian Holloway admits his worry over trying to sign DJ Campbell from Leicester caused him to be ill.

The Seasiders boss was a long-term admirer of Campbell after his successful loan spell at Bloomfield Road last term and spent much of the summer trying to complete a deal for the 28-year-old striker.

Holloway had an ill-fated spell as manager of Leicester during which the Foxes slipped into the third tier of English football for the first time in their history and he left the club soon after.

And Holloway had feared that Foxes chairman Milan Mandaric may harbour grievances over Holloway's spell at the Walkers Stadium and scupper the £1.25million move, which eventually went through just before the transfer window closed.

Stress

"I probably had more sleepless nights than I've ever had before in football and that was because I was thinking about the DJ situation constantly," he told the Leicester Mercury.

"I was thinking my allegiance, however short and wrong it was at Leicester, might have stood in the way of him coming here and I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if that had been the case.

"I thought it might have been an issue between Mr Mandaric and myself, but thankfully sense prevailed.

"The stress of it actually made me ill.

"I've wanted DJ so badly and I'd been putting so much energy into trying to get him."
