Arsenal's injury woes have deepened with the news that forward Theo Walcott has been sidelined for up to six weeks.

The 21-year-old picked up an ankle problem while on England duty in their 3-1 win over Switzerland in Basel on Tuesday night.

The knock was sustained in the build-up to England's first goal, and Gunners manager Arsene Wenger says a scan revealed the extent of the damage.

"The tackle looked quite bad," Wenger told Arsenal's official website.

"When you see how it turned his ankle I thought it would be three or four days or it would be four to six weeks. Unfortunately it will be four to six weeks.

"We had some good news about the scan because at some stage we were scared it could be worse.

"But overall it is a question of patience and rehabilitation."

The news strikes another severe blow for Wenger after star forward Robin van Persie was ruled out for a similar length of time earlier this week.

The duo's absence leaves Arsenal in the midst of an injury crisis ahead of their Premier League clash with Bolton at the Emirates this weekend.

Walcott's injury will also rule him out of England's next Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro at Wembley on October 12th.
