Adam Johnson admits he is looking to 'make up for lost time' after establishing himself in the England fold.

The Manchester City winger was left out of Fabio Capello's squad for this summer's World Cup despite ending the 2009/10 campaign in fine form.

Many felt he was unfortunate to be overlooked, especially as the Three Lions looked short of creative ideas in South Africa.

Johnson has, however, been able to prove a point to the Italian coach in the opening Euro 2012 qualifiers.

He notched in both of England's opening victories, against Bulgaria and Switzerland, as they made the perfect start on the road to Ukraine and Poland.

The 23-year-old is now looking to kick on and make the most of his opportunities, as he admits he still feels disappointed at having missed the World Cup.

"I felt like I was in good form, but the manager had some tough choices to make and unfortunately I was one of them," Johnson told Sky Sports News.

"I am looking to make up for lost time now.

"We are playing really well at the minute, I thought the two results were good for us -six points and top of the group. We are looking forward to the next game now."

Johnson was one of six City players to take to the field against Switzerland on Tuesday, with Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott, Garth Barry, Shaun Wright-Phillips and James Milner also involved.

He feels the national side can only benefit from such a situation, as playing regularly together at club level will help them to establish a greater understanding.

"That is credit to the club because we have a good backbone of English players now," said Johnson.

"That can only be good for the team and for England, with us all playing together week in, week out."
