Richards: Confident despite turbulence

It is ridiculous, but it's only good for the club. We have had a lot of money to spend and we have spent right.

Micah Richards is pleased with Manchester City's progression, despite their 'ridiculous' turnover of players.

Since making his senior City debut in 2005, defender Richards has seen the club go through two takeovers and three managerial changes, as well as witnessing a host of players come and go.

But despite the turbulence he has seen at the club, 22-year-old Richards believes the City supporters can expect good things from the star-studded line-up that has been assembled.

"I made my debut at 17 and I've seen 40, 50, maybe 60 players go in that time," said Richards.

"It is ridiculous, but it's only good for the club. We have had a lot of money to spend and we have spent right.

"This season we can definitely do something and the Champions League is on our minds.

"It's all happened so fast, but Man United have always had the victories, the cup runs, the history and it would be nice if City could do similarly.

"I think we have the players - even as good a squad as theirs now and it's not going to gel overnight, but if we keep this team for two or three years, who knows?"

Competition

Despite the latest haul of high-profile signings at City, Richards remains very much in the mix after starting every Premier League game so far this campaign.

But the England international accepts he will have to fight for his place in the team this term, and expects competition in the squad to be fierce.

"Some players who are not starting every week are going to be disappointed but if we want to have a good team we need good players and a good squad," he said.

"If we want to move forward, some people might have to get upset. When they come in, they are going to have to give 100 per cent."
