Frank Lampard will miss Chelsea's trip to his former employers West Ham on Saturday as he is not yet 100 per cent fit.

The England international underwent hernia surgery during the international break, forcing him to sit out the Three Lions' opening Euro 2012 qualifiers.

It was hoped that he would be ready to resume domestic duties this weekend, but that will not be the case.

His club and international colleague John Terry is set to be drafted back into the fold to face the Hammers, but Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti is not prepared to risk Lampard.

"John is available to play," said Ancelotti.

Rest

"Lampard needs to have more time to rest. He trained with us this week and has done very well, but he needs to have more time. Maybe he'll be involved in the Champions League next week (against MSK Zilina on Wednesday).

"I think these players needed to have a rest because they had problems.

"Terry resolved this problem during the two weeks. Lampard had to have the surgery. He did very well because, in seven days, he was able to train again. But obviously we want to give him more time to recover 100 per cent."

With England having fared admirably against Bulgaria and Switzerland in the absence of Terry and Lampard, it has been suggested that they will struggle to win back their places.

Ancelotti, though, is confident that both men will be in Fabio Capello's thoughts by the time the Three Lions face Montenegro at Wembley on 12th October.

He added: "I think Lampard and Terry deserve to play in the national team. I think that, next time, they'll be ready to play for the national team."
