Hearts defender Lee Wallace is thinking positively after receiving better than expected injury news.

The 23-year-old suffered a torn posterior cruciate ligament in Scotland's 2-1 defeat of Liechtenstein on Tuesday night.

It was at first feared he would be out for six months but it has since emerged that he may not require surgery and could return in three months.

While the new prognosis is still to be confirmed by a specialist, Wallace is delighted that he could be back sooner than anticipated and he is determined to work hard on his rehabilitation.

The left-back told Hearts News: "I spoke to our physio Rob Marshall yesterday afternoon at the academy and he told me the good news.

"When he told me my heart started pumping.

Big difference

"Three months is still a long time to be out but it is such a big difference compared to the six months they were talking about.

"I'll be seeing the specialist soon when hopefully everything will be confirmed.

"It certainly makes you appreciate when you are fit.

"They have told me 10 to 12 weeks and I've never been out for that length of time before but I'm determined to work hard and come back sooner than that.

"I want to come back better, stronger and faster."
