Leeds have confirmed the signing of midfielder Michael Brown on a free transfer.

Skysports.com reported earlier on Monday that the Whites had opened talks with Brown after his contract with Championship rivals Portsmouth expired at the end of the season.

And Leeds later announced that Brown had put pen to paper on a one-year deal, with the option of a further year.

The 34-year-old completed the formalities in Scotland in time to join the rest of his new team-mates at their pre-season training base in Glasgow.

"We're delighted to finalise things with Michael," manager Simon Grayson told the club's official website.

Long-term interest

"He is a player that I have long been interested in and I'm glad we've been able to sort things out for him to come here.

"He has experience and know-how, and he has played at the highest level. He fits the bill in terms of the quality of player I was looking to bring in and he will be a great addition to the squad."

Brown so far has 524 appearances and 50 goals from a career that began with Manchester City and was followed by moves to Sheffield United, Tottenham, Fulham and Wigan.

After spending the last two years with Pompey, Brown is Leeds' second summer signing following the arrival of goalkeeper Paul Rachubka and he could feature in Wednesday's friendly at Falkirk.
